THE PROBLEM AS I SEE IT

So the Republican candidates are tearing at each other’s throats. Well, only one of them is using that as his primary campaign strategy, but he’s probably going to win the nomination. Three terrible things are going to come from this infighting…

*SIGH* REALLY DEBBIE?

Senate Amendment 1465, designed to temporarily extend payroll tax cuts for two months, passed the Senate on December 17^th.  The House does not plan to pass this amendment (nor do they plan to reject it).  Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) said the following on MSLSD last night… “I mean, logic would tell you a bill passing the Senate 89 to 10 would be able to pass the House."  Really?  Well, I guess I can take a few minutes to explain Congress to you, Debbie.  I am after all almost done with my associate’s degree.

MAYBE OBAMACARE ISN'T SO BAD AFTER ALL

OK, maybe I’m wrong.  Maybe Obamacare is the solution this country needs.  After all it’s not like it’s the first controversial piece of legislation in the nation’s history.  Way back when Uncle Sam was just a baby we had a little thing called the Constitution.  They fought over that, too.  So I started to wonder, is Obamacare the next Constitution? ABORTION = MURDER (VERY GRAPHIC)

The only reason a fetus may not be human is because there are different species of fetus. However, a human fetus is, in fact, as the name suggests, human. For those of you who like to be technical and quote dictionaries, Merriam-Webster defines both embryo¹ and fetus² as “a developing human.” “Developing” being the adjective describing the subject... “human.” Look at the picture to the right. Do you see an elephant? or a fetus? Because it's both. To say it's not an elephant because it has not been born is ridiculous. So if a human female is pregnant, that is a little, tiny, developing human inside her, and when she has it aborted she has had it killed without provocation. We can therefore surmise that abortion is the act of murdering a human. If you have the stomach for it, read on. This is going to get graphic...

BUDGET AND THE DEBT CEILING

I think the best quote from the 2006 Congressional vote to extend the budget ceiling was the following, “The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here.” Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.” Too true! Barack Obama nailed it when he said that. Yeah, THAT Barack Obama, y' know the one who promised to cut the national deficit in half by the end of his first term¹. Reid was adamantly against raising the debt ceiling, also². 

THE MYTH OF GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

So the liberal spin is that the Republicans are going to cause a government shut down. Hmm... The budget Obama wants to pass will put this country $4.5 BILLION further into debt every day. Not $4.5B in total spending per day, $4.5B IN DEFICIT SPENDING PER DAY. I don't care how much you tax the rich... that is unsustainable. The Dems should have been passed THIS budget LAST year. They are Constitutionally mandated to do so, but they didn't.

OIL THAT IS, BLACK GOLD, TEXAS TEA

Did you miss me? I tried to quit blogging. I really did. I can't do it. So here we go again -

Oil. We need it. A 42-gallon barrel of oil produces just over 19 gallons of gasoline. The rest goes into products we use everyday. For instance, those big fat tires on your car contain about 7 gallons of petroleum each. The grand aspirations of the current administration, Al Gore, and countless organizations to break our “oil addiction” will not work.

AUDACITY

Taxes irritate me. Not that I don't think they are important. In today's day and age we can't support our necessary infrastructure without them. There are a few things I take issue with though.

The new outrage is the TSA. The conservative media is blowing this thing up. I hope it's due to genuine conviction and not merely to try to further discredit the current administration. To my surprise, the liberal media is also up in arms. Just my luck that the media can finally produce bipartisan coverage of a topic and I completely disagree with them. I started to write this blog a few nights ago, but deleted it after seeing the reaction of the media. I felt I should step back and reassess my viewpoint. I did so and came to the conclusion I was correct. So here it is in black and white... well maybe more of a black and sepia?

SHARIA LAW

 Today is the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment and as such women have enjoyed the right to vote for 90 years.  Women voting as equals to men, which leads nicely into the topic of this blog… Sharia Law.

TOP ISSUES

I have been pondering for some time; what are the biggest obstacles that face our nation?  I have decided to blog on what are, in my opinion, the three largest hurdles our society must overcome.

WE NEED TO SECURE OUR BORDERS

I have personal ties to this subject, yet I have to stay objective.  That’s what I expect from our politicians (and yes, I go to bed disappointed regularly).

Depending on the source, estimates on the number of immigrants illegally living in the United States range from 10 to 20 million.  For the sake of argument I am going to use the average (15 million).  I know it’s not accurate, but that’s because no one, including our government, knows for certain.   Therein lays the first problem.  We don’t know for certain.  Our borders are so unsecure that people pass freely (in AND out) carrying whatever they want with them including weapons and drugs.  Keep in mind this is NOT a Mexican issue, or a drug issue, or a terrorism issue… this is a security issue.  Our borders are porous and that should concern Americans. 

A GLIMMER OF HOPE

In February the President enacted an Executive Order thereby creating the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform - this is a bipartisan group with one mission, reduce the deficit.  He has given the commission until 01 Dec 2010 to provide their recommendations.  Publicly nothing has been ruled out, in fact the opposite is true, with President Obama stating, "Everything is on the table.  That's how this thing is gonna work."  So they may recommend raising taxes or cutting programs (yes, even Health Care Reform is on the table), or they may recommend a combination.  But according to the President, "I'm going to be standing with them as they come up with the recommendations."  This press conference excited me with it's possibilities, although I am fully aware this could just be lip-service.

The President signed into law a bill on Tuesday, 23 March 2010.  Here is my question: Why did he leave for Iowa two days later to sell it to the American people? Shouldn't that have been done first?

OFF THE SUBJECT OF HCR...

I was disappointed and disgusted to wake this morning to news of idiots who think threats and violence are part of the democratic system. As an American first (before any political affiliation), I must say that there is no place for such infantile attacks. You do nothing to strengthen your cause by breaking an office window or threatening a person and their family. In fact, if anything you hurt your cause with such actions.
