AUDACITY

Taxes irritate me. Not that I don't think they are important. In today's day and age we can't support our necessary infrastructure without them. There are a few things I take issue with though.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WEAR ON AN AUTOPSY TABLE?

The new outrage is the TSA. The conservative media is blowing this thing up. I hope it's due to genuine conviction and not merely to try to further discredit the current administration. To my surprise, the liberal media is also up in arms. Just my luck that the media can finally produce bipartisan coverage of a topic and I completely disagree with them. I started to write this blog a few nights ago, but deleted it after seeing the reaction of the media. I felt I should step back and reassess my viewpoint. I did so and came to the conclusion I was correct. So here it is in black and white... well maybe more of a black and sepia?

CAUTIOUS OPTIMISM

Well, I'd like to say I'm tickled pink over the election last Tuesday.  Honestly though I haven't even breathed a sigh of relief.  The last two years have involved a lot of poor and backward decision making in Washington.  Decisions led to policies and laws that need to be undone.  The Republican Party is now poised to be able to start repairing things.  Notice I said start.  This is not a quick fix.

A MORAL TO THE STORY...

Wow, I've been gone for a while!  I can't believe it's been over two months since I posted, although I'm sure that has come as a relief to most of you.  After my prolonged recess I have returned to post quite possibly my laziest blog to date.  I'm just going to paste two things here that I think convey good messages.  To the best of my knowledge these are NOT based in fact.  Instead they are what some would call web lore, though I consider them more along the lines of apologues.  Just as Aesop's fables were not factual, the lessons they conveyed were valuable.  I think there are important messages here as well...

SHARIA LAW

Today is the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment and as such women have enjoyed the right to vote for 90 years.  Women voting as equals to men, which leads nicely into the topic of this blog… Sharia Law.

99 DAYS

The countdown to the November elections has dipped into the double digits.  Hopefully everyone across America is getting to know their candidates.  In the interest of brevity I will just jump to the things I want from every single eligible voter 99 days from now and in the days between now and then...

THE TRILLION DOLLAR QUESTION

I recently posted a scenario on my Facebook group, We Are Americans First.  If you had $1,000,000,000,000 (yeah, with a "T") to spend on the country, what would you do with it? You can refill coffers, "Stimulate", hire, fire, whatever... But you have to spend it on the country... not yourself (sorry, you're not in Congress, yet). Below is my proposed answer.

TOP ISSUES

I have been pondering for some time; what are the biggest obstacles that face our nation?  I have decided to blog on what are, in my opinion, the three largest hurdles our society must overcome.

WE NEED TO SECURE OUR BORDERS

I have personal ties to this subject, yet I have to stay objective.  That’s what I expect from our politicians (and yes, I go to bed disappointed regularly).

Depending on the source, estimates on the number of immigrants illegally living in the United States range from 10 to 20 million.  For the sake of argument I am going to use the average (15 million).  I know it’s not accurate, but that’s because no one, including our government, knows for certain.   Therein lays the first problem.  We don’t know for certain.  Our borders are so unsecure that people pass freely (in AND out) carrying whatever they want with them including weapons and drugs.  Keep in mind this is NOT a Mexican issue, or a drug issue, or a terrorism issue… this is a security issue.  Our borders are porous and that should concern Americans.

A GLIMMER OF HOPE

In February the President enacted an Executive Order thereby creating the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform - this is a bipartisan group with one mission, reduce the deficit.  He has given the commission until 01 Dec 2010 to provide their recommendations.  Publicly nothing has been ruled out, in fact the opposite is true, with President Obama stating, "Everything is on the table.  That's how this thing is gonna work."  So they may recommend raising taxes or cutting programs (yes, even Health Care Reform is on the table), or they may recommend a combination.  But according to the President, "I'm going to be standing with them as they come up with the recommendations."  This press conference excited me with it's possibilities, although I am fully aware this could just be lip-service.

PLEASE FOLKS, DO YOUR HOMEWORK

In reference to the Facebook page on Being Conservative that reads...

REPUBLICAN SPENDING?

I've been meaning to research this for some time... and now I have.

The current administration loves to blame Bush for the deficit.  I decided to take a little walk down down memory lane... won't you come with me?

HE'S TIRED... WE ALL SHOULD BE

This blog was written by 5-time Massachusetts state Senator Robert A. Hall, and originally posted on 19 Feb 2009. I realize he has more readers than I, but I want to help this reach as many people as possible. You can read other blogs by the author at The Old Jarhead. Enjoy...

SOME QUESTIONS...

The President signed into law a bill on Tuesday, 23 March 2010.  Here is my question: Why did he leave for Iowa two days later to sell it to the American people? Shouldn't that have been done first?

HOLY COW...

OK, here is just one of the people that voted "Yes" for health care reform (you have to watch this)...

GOING INTERACTIVE

Hi everyone!  Thanks for the increased participation.  This blog is a little different.  I want to take a step back to do two things:

OFF THE SUBJECT OF HCR...

I was disappointed and disgusted to wake this morning to news of idiots who think threats and violence are part of the democratic system. As an American first (before any political affiliation), I must say that there is no place for such infantile attacks. You do nothing to strengthen your cause by breaking an office window or threatening a person and their family. In fact, if anything you hurt your cause with such actions.

HERE PIGGY, PIGGY, PIGGY!

Yeah you!

Do you know how to catch wild pigs? You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they come to eat.

TAX MASTERS

I guess I'll start by ensuring all of you know of whom I speak.  I refer to Patrick Cox's organization called Tax Masters whose motto is, "We solve your tax problems." Before I go on, you must watch the most recent commercial if you haven't already (this may take a moment to load)...

OBAMA'S HEALTH CARE REFORM

Well, I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said. Let's start with the most obvious problem.. the government does NOT have the Constitutional right to mandate health care.

GETTING UNDERWAY

Hi everyone (by everyone I mean my mom, my wife, and possibly my dad, who will probably be the only people that read this).

I've been wanting to start a blog for some time and I would like to welcome you to my inaugural posting. During this debut I just want to cover my goals and desires.

First, I just want to have an venue to share my opinions. It's arrogant to think that anyone would want to read my opinions. I know that. Heck, my kids don't even have to go through the effort of reading and they still don't care what my opinion is. At the same time that I want to share my opinions, I want to hear the opinions of others as well.

Here comes one of my desires... please feel free to share your opinion, but do so in a cordial manner. Do not blast me because we think differently. If I don't share your viewpoint it doesn't necessarily mean I'm wrong. Besides, if everyone agreed on everything life would be boring. I want to hear your side whether you agree or disagree. You may even change my mind.

Next, I want to cover topics that may make some people squeamish. If my topic offends you or makes you uneasy please understand that is not my intention... and don't blast me. If I tackle a topic that you feel may not agree with you then please just skip that blog. And be advised, I intend to go after the hard hitting subjects like politics, religion, and Van Halen versus Van Hagar. If there is a subject you'd like me to share my views on please ask. I am NOT promising I will cover every suggested topic. I'm a husband, father of four, full time Navy Chief, and my house needs more work than Obama's stimulus plan (ooh.. cheap shot), time is a precious comodity in my world. If I don't cover your topic, please don't blast me.

Are you seeing a pattern yet? No flame threads directed at me or others that post here. It's not that I'm not thick skinned. I can take pretty much anything you can dish out. However, I would like this to be an intelligent arena. I want thinkers with opinions and facts to come here. I'd like folks with opposing (and aligned) viewpoints to share ideas and thoughts. I just ask that we all be civilized. I'm looking for philosophers... not barbarians.

OK, so there is blog number one. Nothing terribly controversial. I'll try to continue to keep the tone light in the future, but I will speak my mind. I look forward to hearing from all three of you! ;)
