OBAMACARE RULING

I’m sort of amazed, I actually have folks asking my opinion on yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling. Well, you should be careful what you ask for.  Here is my take on things…

WISDOM OF THE DISTRICT – Term Limits

Scott Rigell regularly sends out poll questions which he calls “Seeking ‘The Wisdom of the District.’” I have decided that this might be a good way to shine the light on some of the issues being looked at in DC. Here is this week’s question, as well as my reply to Rep. Scott Rigell (VA-2).

VETTING OBAMA - PART II - IN HIS OWN WORDS

Welcome to my debut video. It’s rough, I’ll admit it, but this is my first foray into the world of video and editing. Expect more in the future.

VETTING OBAMA – PART I – IT BEGINS

The economy, albeit gradually, is still tanking. Eduardo Saverin, billionaire cofounder of Facebook has jumped ship and renounced his citizenship (last September). I can’t blame him, he’s not American by birth, and he’s about to make $5-$10 billion through Facebook’s IPO. I wouldn’t want to have to hand the United States $750,000,000 to $1,500,000,000 simply because I hold a U.S. passport either. Saverin is the poster child for what ails this nation. The wealthy are tired of paying MORE than their fair share. They are taking their money and their companies elsewhere. The government’s response? Capital gains taxes will increase by 3% next year.

MY FIRST DAY AS A LIBERAL

I surrender. I’m now a liberal. My first act as a left-winger will be to propose new legislation. I submit the following for the approval of my new peers… When a woman gets married, the husband should have to quit his job. Now I know this may sound crazy, but bear with me. I think that by introducing this law we can cure many of the problems that we Democrats want to correct. After all, is this any crazier than providing guns to Mexican gangs on the border?

THE PROBLEM AS I SEE IT

So the Republican candidates are tearing at each other’s throats. Well, only one of them is using that as his primary campaign strategy, but he’s probably going to win the nomination. Three terrible things are going to come from this infighting…

*SIGH* REALLY DEBBIE?

Senate Amendment 1465, designed to temporarily extend payroll tax cuts for two months, passed the Senate on December 17th.  The House does not plan to pass this amendment (nor do they plan to reject it).  Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) said the following on MSLSD last night… “I mean, logic would tell you a bill passing the Senate 89 to 10 would be able to pass the House."  Really?  Well, I guess I can take a few minutes to explain Congress to you, Debbie.  I am after all almost done with my associate’s degree.

I FIGURED IT OUT!

I finally discovered the most basic difference between liberals and conservatives!  As many of you know, in October of 2010 scientists discovered the “Liberal Gene.”  I think I have actually determined the effect of this gene, dopamine receptor DRD4.  Are you ready?  Here it is!  Conservatives learn HOW to think, while liberals simply learn WHAT to think.  That’s it!

PIRACY v PRIVACY

Have you heard about SOPA? It’s the Stop Online Piracy Act.  Well, it might as well be the Stop Online Privacy Act.  Under the guise of protecting American business from media pirates, counterfeiters, and other such illegal internet activity, the government is preparing to fundamentally change the face of the internet.  Assuming of course they don’t effectively destroy it altogether.

GAYS IN THE MILITARY

I tried to express this in college recently, but was shouted down by my “open-minded” liberal classmates.   I know, it’s hard to believe, but they would not let me express my concerns.  Instead, their collective viewpoint was roared at me from red faces that refused to acknowledge my opinion, much less my right to speak it.  I waited for the commotion to die down, doing my best to try to absorb what the eight or so different voices were saying.  I then tried again to state my views on the matter and was again silenced by the bellowing and screeching of the mob.

MERRY CHRISTMAS – WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT

It’s December, what better time to have a little talk about religion?  I speak now to that small but growing group known as atheists.  Not all atheists, mind you.  Just you angry atheists who protest anything and everything religious.  You know how you don’t like it when “bible thumpers” try to tell you about their religion?  Well, some of us don’t like it when you try to tell us about yours.  Before we get too far, yes, atheism IS a religion.  If belief in a God (monotheism) is a religion, and belief of many gods (polytheism) is a religion, it would stand to reason that belief in no God (atheism) falls into the realm of religion as well.

DEFINING OWS

I think OWS's initial intent was a good idea… Occupy Wall Street that is.  Somewhere along the way however, things went horribly awry, and OWS turned into an Obnoxious, Whiny Subculture.  Things only got worse from there…

SPEECH-GATE

The president needs a new secretary.  Supposedly the Obama administration had no idea that the Republicans had a primary debate scheduled for the exact same day and time the president wanted to speak to Congress.  If that is true then as Bob Schieffer said, "It's going to take a lot to convince me that the president's people did not know there was a Republican debate on the night that the president wanted to make that speech.  If they didn't know - the president's people didn't know - then I think it might be time for the president to get some new people."  You tell ‘em Bob!  Not bad for a liberal!

MY SHORT STORY

A gentleman has two mortgages on the same piece of property.  The combined monthly payments are right around $2,400 and the combined balance on the mortgages is under $250,000.  The property is worth well over $300,000.

One day our friend decides maybe he should refinance his house since interest rates are at a historic low.  He calls up a company and gives them his information.  The nice man on the phone informs the protagonist of our tale that his debt to income ratio is too high but that if he did qualify his payments would drop to $1,700 per month.

CONSERVATIVE FURY

A long-time, very dear friend of mine recently posted an article from the New York Times about the recent tragedy in Norway.  In true (NYT) form the piece opens with the words “A lone political extremist” and as would be expected is followed later in the story by, “Anders Behring Breivik [...] characterized by officials as a right-wing extremist.”  Well of course he is!

MAYBE OBAMACARE ISN'T SO BAD AFTER ALL

Little Sammy.
OK, maybe I’m wrong.  Maybe Obamacare is the solution this country needs.  After all it’s not like it’s the first controversial piece of legislation in the nation’s history.  Way back when Uncle Sam was just a baby we had a little thing called the Constitution.  They fought over that, too.  So I started to wonder, is Obamacare the next Constitution? (Videos are at the end.)

ANTHONY WEINER? YES HE IS

My sincerest thanks to the gentleman from New York for providing me with a primo topic.  As my three ardent followers know, I have been MIA for a while trying to change up My 2 Cents.  The new format?  Satire.  Let’s give it shot, and of course your feedback, as always, is appreciated.

LETTER TO SENATOR RIGELL

Here is a letter (email) I recently sent to Rep. Scott Rigell (R-VA).  Remember, you have to be heard to be represented!  I'd love to see letters you've sent to your politicians.
